Color That Belongs: A Modern-Traditional Take on Kitchen Design

Adding Color With Intention

Think less “statement color” and more “supporting character.” The kind that holds the room together and adds to the timeless character for longevity. Bold colors are fun with cabinet interiors, wallpaper (easily swapped out down the road), or accent pieces such as a brick wall or fresh floral. Our Palace Avenue remodel showcases just this with a burnt orange cabinet interior, blue base cabinetry and complimentary muted materials throughout.

Community; Is Our Word of The Year

Not the buzzword kind - the roll-up-your-sleeves, show-up-when-it-counts kind.

This year, we’re saying yes to what actually matters: sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and building spaces (and businesses) that last. That belief shows up everywhere for us, from a free, content-packed newsletter designed to be genuinely useful, to the launch of Build Bar, a place where homeowners and professionals connect with clarity instead of confusion.

It also shows up locally. We’re investing time and energy into Curious Collective builder events here in Minnesota; gatherings rooted in conversation, curiosity, and craft. No gatekeeping. Just smart people, good questions, and the kind of community that reminds you why you got into this work in the first place.

What We're Learning Right Now

Materials matter. Now more than ever, as our clients expect high end craftsmanship they are willing to spend more now, to save more later. As we closed out another productive week, we set up for an upcoming design presentation, focused on honest materials. Sharing a sneak peek here for a whole home renovation we have our sights on in 2026.

ICYMI: 2026 Interior Design Trends We Actually Believe In

We’re not chasing trends; we’re refining what already works. The through-line is integrity: in materials, in craftsmanship, and in how a home actually lives day to day.

Here’s what we see continuing into 2026, and a few things we’re comfortable saying goodbye to.

You’ll see our firm on Build Bar, a new platform built for homeowners and industry pros who want real guidance from experienced builders, before the big decisions. We’re proud to be featured alongside other vetted professionals we admire.

WHAT'S ON BOARD THIS SEASON FROM KATIE'S DESK Spring Arrived, and So Did a Whole New Set of Obsessions Every season, we do a reset. We pull inspiration from the projects we're living inside of, the things filling our feeds, the books on our nightstands, and the materials we keep reaching for. And every time, a palette emerges that feels less like a trend and more like a collective exhale. This spring, that exhale looks like Sherwin-Williams Cascade Green built floor-to-ceiling in a mudroom...

You Walk Past it Everyday There's a term for what happens to our brains in familiar spaces. Habituation. It's the same reason you stop hearing the hum of your refrigerator, stop noticing the crack in the hallway plaster, stop registering that the kitchen layout has never actually worked for how your family moves. And for most homeowners, it's the reason the project that needs to happen most is the one that keeps getting pushed. We often hear from you, that you've waited over 20 years to do...

Spring Has a Way of Making It Obvious You walk through your front door and something shifts. Maybe it's the light coming in differently now that the days are longer. Maybe it's that corner of the kitchen you've been mentally redesigning for two years. Maybe it's just - this isn't working anymore. Spring is the season homeowners feel it most. The itch to change. And then, almost immediately, the overwhelm. Where do I even start? It's the question we hear more than any other. And honestly? It's...
