The One Room We Stop Seeing

You Walk Past it Everyday

There's a term for what happens to our brains in familiar spaces. Habituation. It's the same reason you stop hearing the hum of your refrigerator, stop noticing the crack in the hallway plaster, stop registering that the kitchen layout has never actually worked for how your family moves.

And for most homeowners, it's the reason the project that needs to happen most is the one that keeps getting pushed. We often hear from you, that you've waited over 20 years to do the renovation. See the above before and after, not a major remodel, just a design overhaul to this living room.

A Simple Exercise

Here's a simple exercise. Walk into your home this weekend and try to see it the way someone else would. A potential buyer, real estate agent, someone that you're hoping will pay you top dollar for your home. What do they see within 30 seconds? That gap, between what you've stopped seeing and what everyone else registers immediately, is usually exactly where the project lives.

What Fresh Eyes Can Do

A client walk this past week started with a long wish list; new layouts, more storage, updated finishes. But as we moved through the house, a pattern emerged. Most of the spaces weren't the problem. What they were living with was a reorganization issue, an honest audit of how each room was actually being used versus how it could be. Once we cleared that noise, we could stay focused on what really mattered, the kitchen. The layout, the function, the way the whole family moved through it every day. Sometimes the most valuable thing we do before a single wall comes down is help a client see what's actually broken versus what just feels that way.

In this below case study we helped reimagine existing square feet versus an addition.

Ready For a Fresh Set of Eyes?

That's exactly what a Build Bar consultation is. One focused conversation with an experienced builder, before any commitments, before any contracts. Just clarity on what's worth doing, what order to do it in, and what it truly takes.

Trending Color For the Season

ICYMI: Lakeview Drive, Edina MN

This one is fresh and we're thrilled to share it.

On Lakeview Drive, we weren't just asked to renovate, we were asked to rethink how an entire family lives inside their home. Every room. Every transition. Every detail that goes unnoticed until it's finally right.

Thoughtful design, precision craftsmanship. An eye for what feels both familiar and new.

We're sharing the full reveal, what we did, why we did it, and how we elevated this home from top to bottom, on the blog now.

WHAT'S ON BOARD THIS SEASON FROM KATIE'S DESK Spring Arrived, and So Did a Whole New Set of Obsessions Every season, we do a reset. We pull inspiration from the projects we're living inside of, the things filling our feeds, the books on our nightstands, and the materials we keep reaching for. And every time, a palette emerges that feels less like a trend and more like a collective exhale. This spring, that exhale looks like Sherwin-Williams Cascade Green built floor-to-ceiling in a mudroom...

Spring Has a Way of Making It Obvious You walk through your front door and something shifts. Maybe it's the light coming in differently now that the days are longer. Maybe it's that corner of the kitchen you've been mentally redesigning for two years. Maybe it's just - this isn't working anymore. Spring is the season homeowners feel it most. The itch to change. And then, almost immediately, the overwhelm. Where do I even start? It's the question we hear more than any other. And honestly? It's...
